One Indian Army Personnel killed , four others injured in Exchange of Fire in Jammu and Kashmir
At least one soldier was killed in action and four other army personnel were injured during a terrorist encounter on Saturday along the Line of Control of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the Indian Army, a Pakistani person was also killed in the exchange of fire. The injured Indian soldiers have been evacuated and taken for treatment.
"There has been exchange of fire with unidentified personnel on a forward post in Kamkari, Macchal Sector on the line of control. One Pakistani person has been killed while two of our soldiers have suffered injuries and have been evacuated. Operations are in progress.", said the India Army in a statement on X.
As per reports, the incident which appears to be an attack by Pakistan's Border Action Team (BAT) took place near the Kamkari post in the Macchal sector of the North Kashmir district. This comes just a day after the ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’, on the occasion of which, PM Narendra Modi gave a stern warning to Pakistan and said that the Indian Army would defeat every terror challenge.
Previously, a terrorist was killed and a non-commissioned officer was injured on Wednesday during an exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists in the Kupwara district. Furthermore, three other terrorists were killed as security forces foiled another infiltration bid in Keran on July 14.
The Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi visited the Line of Control (LOC) in the Kupwara District on Thursday and reviewed the security situation of the forces to deal with infiltration and major attacks.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a review meeting last month to assess the situation in Jammu and Kashmir amid rising terror attacks and spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to get a full overview of the security-related situation of that area and the counter-terrorism operations being undertaken by the armed forces. The PM has asked the concerned authorities to deploy armed forces to counter terror attacks taking place in the Union Territory.
