YRS Chief YS Sharmila won’t be contesting in the upcoming Telangana Assembly Elections, extends support to Congress instead
YS Sharmila of the YRS Telangana Party announced on Friday that she will not contest in the upcoming Telangana Assembly Elections, scheduled on November 30. YS Sharmila stated that ‘Congress has a chance’, and so her party has decided to make a ‘sacrifice’ to end the ‘anti-people rule’ of K Chandrasekhar Rao’s BRS.
"The YSR Telangana Party has taken a very important decision. In scripting the imminent defeat of BRS, it is felt that the Congress party stands a chance, and any division of anti-incumbency votes at this stage will be a hurdle in dethroning KCR," said the YRS’s YS Sharmila.
Sharmila has informed that she has decided to extend her support to the Congress, instead of contesting in the upcoming elections in order to avert a vote split that in turn may work out in the favor of KCR.
"As per many surveys and ground reports, it has been felt that our participation in the Assembly elections will directly impact the vote share of Congress in many constituencies. Therefore, the YSR Telangana Party has decided to make the sacrifice of not contesting in the Telangana Assembly elections. I am ok to take this all-important decision to step back in the larger interest of the state and to ensure the bigger cause of people is addressed," said YS Sharmila, extending her support to the Congress.
Previously, YS Sharmila had notified that she had ‘constructive discussions’ with senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi back in September.
