“Is PM Modi Under Pressure?” Sanjay Raut Questions Silence on Iran Leader’s Death

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He asked whether Israel or the United States is pressuring the Prime Minister for expressing condolences and whether Modi feels “threatened.”

Raut’s remarks came two days after PM Modi visited Israel to strengthen bilateral ties. Soon after the visit, tensions escalated as Iran launched attacks on Israel. In the ensuing conflict, Khamenei was reportedly killed in an Israeli-American strike in Iran.

Despite the longstanding diplomatic relations between India and Iran, Prime Minister Modi has not issued a tweet or public statement expressing condolences over Khamenei’s death.

Addressing a press conference, Raut said India should come forward and officially express grief. He pointed out that Iran has been one of India’s oldest allies and has supported India during several crises, particularly during periods of heightened tensions with Pakistan.

Raut further criticized the manner in which the Iranian leader was killed, calling it deeply concerning. He questioned whether Prime Minister Modi needs “permission” from U.S. President Donald Trump or Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to speak on the matter. He also alleged that there may be external pressure on the Prime Minister.

Calling the attack a “satanic act,” Raut referred to reports of violence in which innocent civilians, including schoolgirls, were killed. He said both the Prime Minister and the President of India should condemn such actions instead of remaining silent.

He also questioned why Indian leaders continue to meet those he described as responsible for such actions, suggesting there may be hidden reasons behind the silence.

Raut further stated that the Iranian leader was respected globally. He mentioned that Khamenei admired leaders such as Jawaharlal Nehru and questioned whether this affects Modi’s stance. He also referred to Nelson Mandela’s admiration for Khamenei and asked whether such respected figures would now be labeled as terrorists.

However, Raut warned that the entire world would ultimately pay the price for the escalating conflict.
