“Would treat these remarks with contempt and not dignify them with a response”: Says India in response to Pakistan’s reference to Kashmir during a UN Security Council meeting on Israel-Palestine war

"I would treat these remarks with the contempt they deserve and not dignify them with a response in the interest of time," said Ambassador R Ravindra, India's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in response to Pakistan's reference to Kashmir during a Second Council meeting on the Israel-Gaza conflict.

This statement comes after Munir Akram, Pakistan’s UN Ambassador made a statement on Kashmir during a UN Security Council meeting centering on the raging Israel-Palestine war and the prevailing situation in the Middle East. "Before I end, there was a remark of habitual nature by one delegation referring to Union Territories that are integral and inalienable parts of my country …I would treat these remarks with the contempt they deserve and not dignify them with a response in the interest of time,” said India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN.

Prior to that, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken addressed the Security Council, stating that all acts of terrorism are illegal and indefensible, whether they are committed by Hamas, which has targeted residents of Mumbai or Kibbutz Beeri, or the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba. He emphasized that the Security Council is responsible for condemning member states that arm, support, and train Hamas or "any other terrorist group that carries out such horrific acts."

"We must affirm the right of any nation to defend itself and to prevent repeating such horror. No member of this Council, no nation in this entire body could or would tolerate the slaughter of its people… They are unlawful and unjustifiable whether they're carried out by ISIS, by Boko Haram, by Al Shabaab, by Lashkar-e-Taiba, or by Hamas. They are unlawful and unjustifiable whether victims are targeted for their faith, their ethnicity, their nationality or any other reason," Anthony Blinken said.
