India carried out precision airstrikes on terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) early Wednesday morning in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, including that of a foreign national.

The operation, codenamed Operation Sindoor, commenced at 1:05 AM on May 6 and was completed within 25 minutes. According to government sources, nine terror camps and training facilities were targeted using advanced stand-off munitions such as SCALP missiles and HAMMER bombs. Some of the weapons used were equipped with hover-and-strike capabilities to ensure high target accuracy and minimal collateral damage.

The strikes were described by Indian authorities as “measured, proportionate, non-escalatory, and responsible.”

Later in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Union Cabinet, where he briefed ministers on the success of the military action. Describing the mission as a “moment of pride,” the Prime Minister said the operation was “executed exactly as planned” with “no mistakes whatsoever.”

“Our armed forces have done a commendable job. Their execution was flawless. The whole country was looking up to us—we are proud of our Army,” he said.

Cabinet ministers reportedly expressed unanimous support for the operation and the Prime Minister’s leadership, responding with applause and table-thumping in the meeting room. The ministers also conveyed that the nation stood firmly with the armed forces and the government in its fight against terrorism, news agency IANS reported.

Meanwhile, Pakistan responded with artillery shelling across the Line of Control (LoC), resulting in the death of at least three civilians in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch sector.
