Woman Killed, Others Injured in Building Collapse at Mumbai's Grant Road amid Heavy Rainfall
A woman died and three others were injured after a portion of a building collapsed near Mumbai's Grant Road on Saturday. The incident occurred around 10:30 am amid heavy rain, with CCTV footage from a nearby shop capturing the moment the structure collapsed.
Rescue operations are currently underway, with fire brigade officials reporting that 13 people have been rescued so far. The balconies of the second and the third floor collapsed of a building named Rubinisa Manzil. Approximately 35-40 people were in the building at the time of the collapse. In videos that surfaced on social media, locals have been seen assisting in efforts to rescue individuals trapped under the debris, including one man whose leg was stuck.
Emergency services, including fire engines, police, and ambulances, swiftly responded to the scene. Despite efforts, a portion of the building's front remains precarious.
The city's bus and railway services have been significantly impacted by the inclement weather, causing waterlogging on roads and tracks. The India Meteorological Department has forecasted continued moderate to heavy rains for Mumbai in the coming days.
