“Wayanad continues to be represented with love…” Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi likely to attend the nomination filing event as Priyanka Gandhi Vadra makes her electoral debut
As political spotlights shifts to Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency for the impending by-elections, Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday took to social media to once again endorse the candidacy of his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from the seat, also urged people to join the nomination filing process on October 23. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is expected to file her nomination on Wednesday, as she is set to make her foray into electoral politics.
In a heartfelt tweet, he expressed, “The people of Wayanad hold a special place in my heart, and I can’t imagine a better representative for them than my sister, Priyanka Gandhi. I’m confident she will be a passionate champion of Wayanad’s needs and a powerful voice in Parliament. Join us tomorrow, 23rd October, as she files her nomination for the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency. Together, let’s ensure Wayanad continues to be represented with love.”
Priyanka Gandhi's nomination comes after Rahul Gandhi vacated the Wayanad seat, which he won in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections while simultaneously securing the Raibareli seat. Having made the “difficult choice” to retain Raibareli, Rahul expressed confidence in Priyanka's ability to represent Wayanad effectively. Political observers anticipate a spirited campaign as the Gandhi family seeks to maintain their influence in Wayanad. Congress party intends to make the nomination filing of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra a grand affair, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi both are expected to attend it. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharga will also attend the event. Several other congress leaders including Telangana Chief Minister Revant Reddy have been invited for the nomination event.
The Wayanad by-election is slated for November 13. BJP on the other hand has fielded Navya Haridas for the seat. Navya Haridas is the State General Secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha. She is a two-time councilor in Kozhikode Corporation and BJP parliamentary party leader in the corporation. She was the NDA candidate for Kozhikode South constituency in the last Assembly election held in 2021.
