Vadodara Car Crash: Volkswagen Sends Vehicular Data to Germany for Further Investigation

In the aftermath of the tragic accident in Vadodara, where a high-speed car driven by 23-year-old law student Rakshit Chaurasia collided with at least three scooters, resulting in one death, three safety officers from Volkswagen's Pune-based plant collected crucial data from the vehicle and sent it to Germany for further analysis.
The data sent to Germany is expected to reveal critical details, including the car’s speed at the time of the accident, whether the brakes were applied, and when the airbags deployed. The report will be handed over to Vadodara police for further investigation and court proceedings.
The vehicle's Electronic Control Unit (ECU) stores data from various components, including the airbag crash sensor. Since this data is not accessible at the dealership level, the vehicle was sent to Volkswagen for diagnostics. The findings could shed light on the exact circumstances of the accident.
Alongside Volkswagen’s analysis, a forensic (FSL) examination of the car was conducted. However, the FSL report is yet to be released. Meanwhile, Karelibaug police had written to Volkswagen, prompting company officials to visit the Vadodara showroom and collect vehicle data.
Initially kept at Karelibaug police station, the vehicle was later moved to a Volkswagen showroom in Vadodara’s New Yard. To prevent tampering, police guarded the car in three shifts for three days before returning it to the station.
On the night of March 13, near Muktanand Circle in Karelibaug, an allegedly intoxicated Rakshit Chaurasia lost control of his car, hitting eight pedestrians. Among the victims was Hemaliben Patel, who died on the spot, while her husband, Purav Patel, sustained serious injuries. A young boy and girl were also among the injured. Following the incident, Vadodara police arrested Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia, a resident of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, and charged him with culpable homicide.
Reports indicate that Rakshit’s family resides in a luxurious flat in Imlok Colony, Varanasi. However, following the accident, their home has remained locked. Neighbors claim the family left for Vadodara six days ago, but they have not met Rakshit, who is currently in judicial custody.
