US seeks clarification from Israel over alleged bombing of Gaza University
A video of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) allegedly blowing up the main campus building of Palestine University in Gaza has gone viral on social media and has prompted the United States to seek an explanation from Israel. The video shows the abandoned university building being blown down to dust, following massive explosions purportedly caused by concealed bombs.
The United States so far has refrained from commenting on the video citing insufficient information. However, reports suggest that witnesses in Khan Yunis saw gunfire and air strikes following the Israeli military actions. AFP has reported that there were 77 confirmed deaths in the incident. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed the United States' urging to initiate measures for the creation of a Palestinian state post the conflict.
As the conflict enters its fourth month with no resolution in sight, tensions have escalated throughout the Middle East. The death toll among Palestinians has surpassed 24,400, and the United Nations reports that a quarter of Gaza's 2.3 million residents are facing starvation. In Israel, the October 7 attack by Hamas resulted in about 1,200 casualties, with around 250 individuals taken hostage.
