UP Woman Hangs Herself Accidentally While Filming a Reel; Probe Underway

A 27-year-old woman died while attempting to film a social media reel at her home in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district, in an incident that police say appears to be a tragic accident linked to a staged video.

The woman, identified as Mohini, was allegedly recreating a dramatic scene for a reel when the incident occurred. What was meant to be a simulated act quickly turned fatal, leaving her family and neighbours in shock.

According to relatives, Mohini had tied a noose around her neck and stood on a stool while recording the video on her mobile phone. The scene was reportedly meant to depict hanging, but without any intention of self-harm.

Within moments, the situation spiralled out of control. Family members told the police that it remains unclear whether Mohini slipped or lost her balance, but the noose tightened around her neck, causing her to collapse.

The tragedy came to light when Mohini’s four-year-old daughter walked into the room and found her mother hanging. The child began screaming, alerting neighbours, who rushed in and discovered Mohini unresponsive.

Police were informed immediately and reached the spot soon after. Officers brought the body down, took it into custody and sent it for post-mortem examination.

A police official said the incident is being examined from all angles, adding that preliminary findings point to an accidental death that occurred while the woman was filming a reel. The officer noted that a detailed investigation is still underway before any final conclusions are reached.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the dangers of risky content creation and social media-driven stunts, particularly when performed without safeguards.
