UNLF signs a peace agreement with the Central Government, ‘A historic milestone achieved!’ says Amit Shah
Home Minister Amit Shah, on Wednesday, announced that the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), which happens to be the oldest militant group in Manipur, has officially entered into a peace agreement with the Central government.
Taking to social media platform ‘X’, Union Home Minister Shah said that a historic milestone has been achieved. “A historic milestone achieved!!! Modi govt’s relentless efforts to establish permanent peace in the Northeast have added a new chapter of fulfilment as the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) signed a peace agreement, today in New Delhi. UNLF, the oldest valley-based armed group of Manipur has agreed to renounce violence and join the mainstream. I welcome them to the democratic processes and wish them all the best in their journey on the path of peace and progress,” posted the Union Minister.
The peace agreement with the Central government marks a crucial step towards fostering harmony and stability in the region, as the longstanding conflict between the UNLF and the government took a positive turn. Only a few days back, the Ministry of Home Affairs had banned the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and several other extremist organizations, and a noteworthy development unfolded with the signing of a peace agreement.
