Tribal woman stripped naked and paraded in Rajasthan's Pratapgarh, several detained, police camp in the village

A 21-year-old tribal woman was allegedly molested, beaten, stripped naked, and paraded in Rajasthan's Pratapgarh district, by her husband, said the police on Friday, after a video of the woman being manhandled and abused on Thursday came to the fore and was widely circulated online. In the video, the 21-year-old can be seen wailing and crying for help, while the accused, allegedly her husband, can be seen stripping the woman and parading her naked, outside their house.

Initial investigation has revealed that the woman was allegedly in a relationship with another man. Unmesh Mishra DGP Rajasthan has said that the in-laws of the woman were unhappy that she is living with another man despite being married. They kidnapped the 21-year-old, brought her back to their village, and in an attempt to teach her a lesson, beat her up, stripped her naked and paraded her in their village.

An investigation is underway and 3 people have been arrested in connection to this case. Six teams have been formed to arrest the prime accused and the Pratapgarh Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar is camping in the village.

Taking to X, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot vehemently condemned the incident. "In Pratapgarh district, a video of a woman being stripped naked by her in-laws due to a family dispute with her in-laws has surfaced. The Director General of Police has been instructed to send the ADG Crime to the spot and take the strictest action in this matter. There is no place for such criminals in a civilized society. These criminals will be put behind bars as soon as possible and will be tried and punished in the fast track court", read the Rajasthan CM's tweet.

However, a scathing attack has been launched on the CM and other Congress leaders, by BJP Chief JP Nadda, calling the Rajasthan Government out for its apathy. "The video from Pratapgarh, Rajasthan, is shocking. What is worse is governance in Rajasthan is totally absent. The Chief Minister and Ministers are busy settling factional squabbles, and the remaining time is spent appeasing one dynasty in Delhi. It's no wonder the issue of women's safety is being completely ignored in the state. Every single day, there is an instance of harassment against women. The people of Rajasthan will teach the state government a lesson", said the BJP Chief.

"All limits of inhumanity towards women have been crossed in Rajasthan. In Dhariyavad, a woman has been stripped and beaten, the video of which is viral, but Gehlot ji, who makes tall claims on women's safety, is the Chief Minister and Home Minister of which state? Two days have passed, and the police have not even prepared the report! The hypocrisy of the Congress has been exposed now. Where is Rahul Gandhi? When will he come to Dhariyavad? When will he seek Ashok Gehlot's resignation and demand President's rule in Rajasthan?", said BJP MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat stating that this incident of abuse exposes the hypocrisy of the Congress.

In the meantime, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has condemned the 'harrowing incident' in Rajasthan's Pratapgarh. They have stated that despite the incident happening two days ago, this police inaction in this case is 'simply unacceptable.' NCP Chief Rekha Sharma has asked the DGP to promptly arrest the culprits and invoke the necessary sections of the IPC. Moreover, the NCP has demanded a comprehensive report within 5 days.
