“She will be your sister, your daughter, and your advocate…”: Rahul Gandhi Urges Wayanad Voters to Support Sister Priyanka Gandhi in By-election
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday urged voters in Kerala’s Wayanad constituency to support his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in the ongoing by-elections. This by-election marks Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s electoral debut in Wayanad, a seat that was previously held by Rahul. After winning the Wayanad seat in both the 2019 and 2024 general elections, Rahul vacated it to retain his Raebareli seat in Uttar Pradesh.
Taking to social media, Rahul called on his supporters to come out and vote, highlighting Priyanka’s readiness to represent the region in Parliament. “I’m reaching out to my family in Wayanad—this election, my sister Priyanka Gandhi is ready to be your voice in Parliament,” Rahul wrote in a post on X.
Rahul further stated that Priyanka would be more than just a representative for the people of Wayanad. “She will be your sister, your daughter, and your advocate. I am confident she will help unlock Wayanad’s full potential,” he added. In his message, he urged the electorate, “Let’s ensure a resounding victory together! Come out, vote, and support her.”
Priyanka Gandhi is contesting against Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate Satyan Mokeri, BJP’s Navya Haridas, and 13 other contenders. The results of the by-polls in Wayanad will be tallied on November 23.
While touring polling booths in the region on Wednesday, Priyanka Gandhi expressed optimism about her chances and hoped the people of Wayanad would give her the opportunity to serve them. “I hope the people of Wayanad give me a chance to make them happy,” she told the media.
Polling began at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, with over 1,000 booths set up across Wayanad, which has around 14 lakh eligible voters. Special security measures have been implemented to ensure smooth voting.
The Congress party has campaigned intensively in Wayanad, with Sonia, Rahul, and Priyanka all taking part in roadshows and rallies to promise development for the region. With high hopes for Priyanka’s victory, the party is confident of securing a strong mandate in this crucial by-election.
If Priyanka wins, she will join her mother Sonia Gandhi and brother Rahul as the third member of the Gandhi family to hold a parliamentary seat. Sonia currently serves in the Rajya Sabha, while Rahul represents Raebareli in the Lok Sabha. This would also mark the first time all three Gandhi family members are serving in Parliament simultaneously.
