Sameer Khan, Son-in-law of Nawab Malik Dies Following Car Accident, Police Likely to File Murder Charges Against Driver
Sameer Khan, a candidate for the Mankhurd Shivajinagar Assembly seat in the upcoming Maharashtra elections and a leader of the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP, has passed away after an extended hospitalization. Nawab Malik, Khan's father-in-law, shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), announcing the cancellation of all his scheduled events for the next two days in mourning.
Khan was hospitalized following a severe accident on September 18, 2024, outside a hospital in Kurla. He sustained critical injuries, including a brain clot and multiple fractures, after being struck by an SUV driven by Abdul Ansari, his driver. Witnesses reported that Khan was thrown 10-15 feet upon impact, and the vehicle subsequently collided with a boundary wall. Ansari claimed he accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, initially hitting several parked bikes before striking Khan.
After the accident, Khan was admitted to CritiCare Hospital, where he battled severe injuries to his brain, ribs, shoulder, and neck. He remained in critical condition until his passing on Sunday.
Initially, Mumbai police filed an accident case; however, following Khan's death, they may now pursue a murder charge against the driver. The death has deeply affected Malik’s family, including Khan's widow, Nilofar.
Khan previously made headlines when he was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a high-profile drugs case, leading to a public dispute between Nawab Malik and then-NCB Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede.
