Saif Ali Khan Thanks Auto Driver Who Rushed Him to Hospital After Stabbing Incident
Actor Saif Ali Khan met auto driver Bhajan Singh Rana on Tuesday to personally thank him for rushing him to Lilavati Hospital after a stabbing incident at his Bandra residence last week. The meeting took place at the hospital before Saif’s discharge, marking an emotional moment for both.
Photos from the meeting show Saif with his arm around Bhajan, smiling as they sit together on the hospital bed. Another image captures them standing side by side, posing for a photograph. The auto driver also met Saif’s family, including his mother, veteran actor Sharmila Tagore, who expressed their gratitude for his timely intervention.
Recounting the incident to NTT, Bhajan said, “I drive my vehicle at night. Around 2-3 a.m., I saw a woman trying to hire an auto, but nobody stopped. I also heard calls for a rickshaw from inside the gate. I took a U-turn and stopped my vehicle near the gate. A man covered in blood came out with 2-4 others. They put him in the auto and asked me to take them to Lilavati Hospital. Later, I learned it was Saif Ali Khan. I saw him bleeding from his neck and back.”
The attack occurred during a burglary at Saif’s home. The accused, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh, allegedly stabbed the actor multiple times. According to the police, the attacker confessed that he stabbed Saif in the back to free himself from the actor's grip during a confrontation around 2:30 a.m. He had entered the residence through a bathroom window and fled the same way after the altercation. Police apprehended him three days later.
Saif, who sustained injuries to his neck and back, was rushed to the hospital by Bhajan at around 3 a.m., where he received immediate medical care. The incident highlights the importance of timely action, with Bhajan’s quick response playing a crucial role in saving the actor’s life.
