Ripples of Manipur violence reached Gujarat; bandh called on Sunday in Tribal areas

Ripples of Manipur violence has reached Gujarat as the state witnessed protests in several parts, mostly in tribal dominated areas. "On Sunday, a bandh will be observed in the tribal belt in Gujarat as per the call given by the tribal community to protest against violence and atrocities against women in Manipur; Madhya Pradesh urination incident, and atrocities on tribals in Gujarat," said Praful Vasava, AAP leader and also a noted tribal voice.
This came after the shocking video of two women made to parade naked on may 4 went viral stoking nationwide protest and public outrage. Sunday Bandh call has been supported by both Aam Aadmi Party and Congress. "Several tribal organizations have given a call for a bandh to protest against the Central government's stance on Manipur. They requested for Congress support and the party has decided to fully support the bandh. The BJP is responsible for the situation in Manipur," said Congress Spokesperson Manish Doshi, he also added that the bandh “will be effective in the entire tribal belt, from Ambaji in the north to Umergoan in the south”.
Protesters have been demanding resignation of Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey and CM N Biren Singh ever since the videos of torture surfaced.
However, dismissive of such protests and opposition attacks, the BJP has launched massive counter attack highlighting cases of alleged human rights violations in non BJP ruled states including Rajasthan, Chattisgarh and Bengal. PM Modi had spoken about the incident of women being violated in Manipur after the video surfaced, condemned it, in his first reaction ever on Manipur, 78 days later since the violence erupted in the trouble torn state on May 3.
