Prime Minister Modi condemns loss of civilian lives in Israel-Hamas conflict, advocates Global South unity for humanitarian aid
In his address at the opening session of the Second Voice of Global South Summit on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the loss of civilian lives in the ongoing conflict between Israeli forces and Hamas militants. He highlighted the emerging challenges in western Asia and reiterated India's firm opposition to violence and terrorism, including the October 7 attacks by Hamas on Israel. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of exercising restraint and prioritizing dialogue as fundamental principles for resolving conflicts.
"We all are seeing that new challenges are emerging from the events in the West Asia region. India has condemned the terrorist attack in Israel on October 7," PM Modi said. "We have exercised restraint as well. We have given emphasis on dialogue and diplomacy. We also strongly condemn the deaths of civilians in the conflict between Israel and Hamas."said Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking about the humanitarian aid sent by India, PM Modi said, “After talking to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, we have also sent humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine. This is the time when the countries of the Global South should unite for the greater global good.”
On October 7, a high-impact land-sea-air assault by the Palestinian group Hamas resulted in the tragic loss of over 1,200 lives, predominantly civilians, in Israel. In response, Israel conducted airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, a stronghold of Hamas, causing the death of more than 11,000 people in this densely populated Palestinian area.
During the event, Prime Minister Modi urged for collaboration within the framework of the five Cs, namely "consultation, communication, cooperation, creativity, and capacity building."
