Poll dates of Rajasthan revised from November 23 to November 25
The Election Commission of India has rescheduled the Rajasthan Assembly Elections from November 23 to November 25. The decision came after several political parties and social organizations requested a change in the poll schedule. Stating that November 23 has a large number of social engagements, such as weddings that would cause inconvenience to voters, the political parties put forth this request.
The decision to reschedule the election has been welcomed by several politicians, including BJP MP Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, who said, "This is a good thing. The Election Commission wants more voting to happen. This is a good decision. I welcome it." Rathore is contesting the assembly election from Jhotwara in Jaipur.
As per the new schedule announced by the ECI, the date for issuing gazette notifications is October 30. The last date for filing nominations is November 6, and the nominations will be scrutinized on November 7. The last date for withdrawing nominations is November 9.
Rajasthan has 200 assembly constituencies, and the term of the state assembly expires on January 14, 2022. The BJP and Congress are in a direct fight in Rajasthan. The Congress currently governs Rajasthan under Ashok Gehlot. BJP had won 73 seats in the previous assembly election, as opposed to the 163 seats it had won in the 2013 assembly election.
The Election Commission has also announced the schedule for other state elections, including Madhya Pradesh (November 17), Chhattisgarh (November 7 and 17), Mizoram (November 7), and Telangana (November 30). The counting of votes for all states will take place on December 3.
