Ceasefire Breached: BSF Officer Killed, Seven Injured in Cross-Border Firing in Jammu

A Border Security Force (BSF) officer was killed and seven others were injured in cross-border firing in the R S Pura sector of Jammu on Saturday, officials confirmed. The BSF personnel came under heavy fire along the International Border, resulting in multiple casualties and highlighting a serious breach of the ceasefire understanding between the two nations.
Sub-Inspector Mohammed Imteyaz, who was leading his team from the front, was critically injured during the exchange and later succumbed to his injuries. Seven other BSF personnel were also injured in the firing and are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
"We salute the supreme sacrifice made by BSF #Braveheart Sub Inspector Md Imteyaz in service of the nation on 10 May 2025 during cross border firing along the International Boundary in R S Pura area, District Jammu. While leading a BSF border out post, he gallantly led from the front. DG BSF and all ranks offer their deepest condolences to his family," posted BSF Jammu Frontier, paying tribute to the fallen officer.
A wreath-laying ceremony in honour of the late officer will be held on Sunday at the BSF’s Jammu Frontier Headquarters in Paloura.
The incident occurred just hours after a ceasefire understanding was announced. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both India and Pakistan had agreed to cease all forms of firing and military action—whether on land, air or sea—with effect from 5 pm on Saturday. However, the Ministry of External Affairs later confirmed that that ceasefire agreement was violated by Pakistan.
