One Dead, 40 Hospitalised in a Nitrogen Gas Leak at a Rajasthan Factory

A nitrogen gas leak from a tanker at an acid factory warehouse in Beawar, Rajasthan, has claimed the life of one person and affected at least 40 others. The incident occurred around 10:00 PM on Monday at Sunil Trading Company, located in the Badiya area under Beawar police station.
The fatality was identified as the factory owner, Sunil Singhal, who tried to control the gas leak throughout the night. Despite his efforts, his health rapidly deteriorated, and he was referred to a hospital in Ajmer, where he later passed away from the effects of the gas exposure.
The gas leak, which originated from a tanker stored in the company’s warehouse, quickly spread to nearby residential areas. Within seconds, it caused severe suffocation and eye irritation among the residents. Over 60 people were rushed to both government and private hospitals in Beawar for medical attention.
Local authorities acted swiftly, with police and administrative officials, including the District Magistrate (DM), Superintendent of Police (SP), and fire brigade teams, arriving at the scene. By around 11:00 PM, the leak was brought under control. As a safety measure, the surrounding area was evacuated to prevent further harm. Despite the leak being contained, panic persisted in the affected neighbourhoods.
District Collector Dr. Mahendra Khadgawat has since ordered the immediate sealing of the factory and instructed the police to register a case. Investigations are now underway to determine the cause of the leak and to assess the factory’s safety protocols to prevent future incidents.
Ward councillor Hansraj Sharma, who was informed by concerned residents, quickly alerted the fire brigade and local administration. The fire department arrived promptly, and SDM Divyansh Singh confirmed that the gas leaked was nitrogen.
In an effort to reduce the impact of the gas, emergency personnel poured water onto the tanker and sealed its lid. This helped contain the leak. The administration has reassured residents that the situation is under control but has also urged caution and advised them to follow necessary safety precautions.
