Nilkamal Boat Tragedy: Police Await Statement from Critically Injured Navy Speed Boat Driver
The Mumbai Police face a prolonged wait to record the statement of Karamveer Yadav, the driver of the Navy speed boat critically injured in the December 18 accident near the Gateway of India. Yadav remains in a critical condition at Ashwini Hospital, and doctors have deemed him unfit to provide any statement at this stage.
Sources revealed that a police team visited Ashwini Hospital to assess Yadav’s condition and record his statement. However, doctors reported that he has sustained severe injuries to his brain, arms, legs, and other parts of his body, requiring significant time for recovery. Due to the extent of his brain injuries, it is uncertain whether Yadav will be mentally and physically capable of providing a statement even after recovery.
Yadav’s testimony is vital to the investigation, as he was operating the speed boat during the tragic incident.
Manufacturer Under Scrutiny for Technical Faults
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police are also considering filing charges against the speed boat engine manufacturer, Chougule Fiberglass Ships Pvt. Ltd. Preliminary investigations have indicated that a hydraulic handle lock malfunction caused the accident.
If confirmed, the company may face charges for negligence and technical faults. Another revelation from the investigation suggests that Deep Nicose, another injured individual in the incident, had no direct affiliation with the company. Nicose was privately appointed by Praveen Sharma, an employee of the company who lost his life in the accident.
The investigation continues, with authorities focusing on both technical lapses and witness accounts to determine the exact cause of the tragedy.
