The National Commission for Women (NCW) has strongly condemned the online harassment of Himanshi Narwal, wife of late Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was among the victims of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

In an official statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the NCW described the trolling as “extremely condemnable and unfortunate,” highlighting the growing trend of targeting women for expressing their personal views.

“In the terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, many citizens of the country were killed. Among the victims was Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was shot after being asked about his religion. This terrorist attack has deeply hurt and angered the entire nation,” the Commission stated.

“After the death of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, his wife, Ms Himanshi Narwal, has been targeted on social media in connection with one of her statements. This is extremely condemnable and unfortunate. Targeting a woman based on her personal views or private life and trolling her is unacceptable in any form,” it added.

The Commission further emphasised that public discourse, even when marked by disagreement, must remain within the bounds of civility and constitutional values. It reiterated its commitment to protecting the dignity and rights of women and urged social media platforms to take stringent action against those engaging in abusive behaviour.

The trolling against Himanshi Narwal began after she made an appeat at a tribute ceremony for her husband, Navy officer Lieutenant Vinay Narwal.“We don’t want people going after Muslims and Kashmiris. We want peace and justice. People who have done wrong with him should be punished,” said Himanshi.
