Manipur Police Commandoes Laid Down Arms in Protest against the Abduction of an Officer
Manipur police commandoes stationed in the valley districts laid down their arms in protest after an Additional Superintendent of Police was attacked, kidnapped and his house was ransacked by around 200 armed miscreants on Tuesday night. The protesting police personals also expressed their dissatisfaction towards the government that has allegedly failed to protect its forces.
An incident of firing was reported at the residence of Additional Superintendent of Police Moirangthem Amit, said the Manipur Police. “Armed miscreants numbering about 200 coming in vehicles stormed at the residence of the Additional Superintendent of Police. The armed miscreants vandalized the household properties at the residence. On getting information, additional security forces rushed to the spot,” posted the Manipur police on “X”.
According to the police two people were injured in the confrontation that ensued between the armed miscreants and the forces, they sustained minor injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. The police have also stated that the ASP and one of his escort’s were abducted by the armed miscreants and were later rescued Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai area. The Manipur Police has registered a case, and has launched an investigation probing into the happenings of the night.
Aggrieved by the development police commandoes stationed across the valley districts laid down their arms in protest. The forces also protested against the actions of the locals in allegedly supporting the miscreants. “When the general public is present in a situation like that, the police also cannot respond fully to the perpetrators because innocent people will die,” said a police official, unwilling to be identified.
This comes two weeks after the Churachadpur District Commissioner’s residence was ransacked and set ablaze, and the SP’s office was attacked by a mob and several documents were feared burned down.
