Manipur Government denies permission for Congress' Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra launch from Imphal East
The Manipur government on Wednesday refused to grant permission for the launch of the Congress’ "Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra" slated to start on January 14, from Hapta Kangjeibung, Palace Compound in Imphal East.
“We met the chief minister in connection with the permission for the venue of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra today. The chief minister declined to give permission for Hafta Kangjeibung, Palace Compound,” said K Meghachandra, President, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee. “It is very unfortunate. It is a violation of people’s rights and the political rights of the people, more particularly the people of Manipur,” he added.
The Manipur Pradesh Committee President stated that the party will look for an alternative private place for the commencement of the yatra, if the government does not give permission for a public place. During the meeting with CM N Biren Singh on Wednesday, Meghachandra was accompanied by MPCC Vice President Hareshwar Goshwami and other members.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) team led by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal arrived in Imphal on Monday to supervise the preparations for the upcoming 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.'
The 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,' organized by the Congress party under the theme 'Manipur to Mumbai,' is set to commence from Imphal on January 14. The yatra is planned to traverse a distance of 6,700 kilometers spanning across 15 states, ending in Mumbai on March 20.
