Maharashtra Assembly Elections: Last-Minute Nomination Rush as No Final Seat-Sharing Formula Tabled by Mahayuti and MVA
With just two days left to file nominations for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, neither the ruling Mahayuti alliance nor the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has finalized a comprehensive seat-sharing agreement for the 288 constituencies.
As of Sunday, the MVA has announced a total of 262 candidates: the Congress is fielding 101, Shiv Sena (UBT) has named 83, and the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) is putting forward 76 candidates. Twenty-six seats remain unallocated within the MVA’s arrangement.
On the other hand, the Mahayuti alliance, which includes the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), has released a list of 235 candidates. The Shiv Sena recently added 20 names, while Ajit Pawar’s NCP introduced four new candidates as both factions work to solidify their representation.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is set to file his nomination today for the Kopari-Pachpakhadi constituency in Thane. A show of strength rally is planned, with the Shiv Sena mobilizing a large contingent of party workers from Parabwadi to Wagale Estate. The rally is expected to attract Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Shinde.
As the deadline approaches, high-profile figures, including Amit Thackeray (son of Raj Thackeray), Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Kedar Dighe, BJP’s Sanjay Kelkar, and Sunil Raut (brother of MP Sanjay Raut), are anticipated to file their nominations soon.
