Lok Sabha Speaker Issues Strict Instructions to Prevent Protests at Parliament Gates
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has directed that no MP be allowed to hold protests at any gates of the Parliament. This decision comes after a chaotic clash between MPs from the ruling NDA and the Opposition bloc, INDIA on Thursday.
As reported by NDTV, the Speaker’s instructions were issued after the situation escalated at the Makar Dwar entrance, where MPs from both sides were protesting over remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Birla's directive aims to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure smooth functioning at the gates.
The protest outside Parliament turned violent when MPs from the NDA and the Opposition faced off, leading to a reported physical altercation. BJP MP Pratap Sarangi was injured in the scuffle and later taken to the hospital for treatment. BJP members alleged that Sarangi was pushed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, which led to the injury. Another BJP MP, Mukesh Rajput, also sustained injuries during the incident.
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, denied the allegations, stating that while attempting to enter Parliament, BJP MPs had pushed and threatened him. Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned in the wake of the disruption.
Following the incident, the Delhi Police registered a FIR against Rahul Gandhi after a complaint by the BJP accusing him of physical assault and incitement.
In response to the FIR, the Congress strongly rejected the assault claims, accusing BJP MPs of pushing their party president, Mallikarjun Kharge, and physically manhandling Rahul Gandhi. The Congress also filed a separate complaint regarding the incident.
