Jharkhand: 2 Loco Pilots Killed, 4 Injured in Head-On Collision of NTPC Freight Trains

At least two loco pilots lost their lives, and four others were injured in a head-on collision between two freight trains in Jharkhand’s Sahebganj district early on Tuesday. The accident occurred around 3:00 AM near Bhognadih, in the Barhait police station area.
The trains involved were operated by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), and the tracks where the incident took place are also owned by NTPC. These tracks are primarily used for transporting coal to the corporation’s power plants.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Kumar Singh confirmed the fatality toll, stating, "The matter is related to the collision of two freight NTPC trains on the MGR rail line near Barhet. The crash occurred at Bhognadih turn. Both drivers, Dnyaneshwar Mal, 35, and Ambuj Mahato, also 35, died in this tragic accident."
In addition to the two fatalities, four individuals sustained injuries. The injured included Assistant Loco Pilots GK Nath and Rajendra Kumar, as well as two labourers, Ravi Ghosh and Zirul Sheikh. They were rushed to Malda for treatment.
Following the collision, a fire broke out. "The fire was quickly controlled by fire fighters," SP Singh noted. "The bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem, and investigations into the incident are currently ongoing,” he added.
