“Happy Constitution Day to all of you. The basic spirit of our Constitution is that justice and rights should be equal for all. Everyone should get an opportunity to live with self-respect,” Gandhi wrote in his tweet, emphasising the inclusive vision enshrined in the nation's founding document.

On the occasion of Constitution Day on Monday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to the framers of India's Constitution, reaffirming his commitment to safeguarding its principles of justice, equality, and self-respect for all citizens. In a post on ‘X’, Gandhi highlighted the significance of the Constitution in upholding the rights of the most vulnerable sections of society.

“Happy Constitution Day to all of you. The basic spirit of our Constitution is that justice and rights should be equal for all. Everyone should get an opportunity to live with self-respect,” Gandhi wrote in his tweet, emphasising the inclusive vision enshrined in the nation's founding document.

He further reminded the Constitution as a powerful tool for protecting the poor and marginalized, stating, “The stronger it is, the stronger our country will be.” Gandhi’s remarks come at a time when discussions around social justice, equal rights, and the protection of democratic values continue to dominate India’s political discourse. The run upto the 2024 Lok Sabha election saw Congress and other opposition parties cling on the same narrative of “constitution being under threat”, eventually yield them results. While Congress had seen some resurgence but parties like the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and Trinamool Congress in West Bengal that had been able to restrict the BJP the most. The ruling BJP had fallen down to 240, unable to form the government without the alliances including Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP.

“On this day, I reiterate my resolve to protect it”, Rahul Gandhi said, reflective of dominance of the narrative in Congress’s political discourse, even though the same, according to political pundits didn’t help the grand old party in Maharashtra Assembly elections.
