Explosion at Firecracker Factory in Tamil Nadu Claims Six Lives
At least six workers lost their lives following an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday. Authorities suspect that the blast occurred during the process of mixing chemicals, which resulted in the destruction of at least one room of the facility.
The explosion led to the tragic fatalities, and the fire and rescue teams quickly responded to the scene to manage the situation.
This comes a day after a LPG tanker overturned in Coimbatore on Friday morning. The accident occurred on the Avinashi Road flyover when the tanker became detached from the truck as the driver navigated a roundabout. Although the tanker leaked a small amount of gas, no injuries were reported.
The overturned tanker caused a temporary disruption to traffic in the central part of the city. Authorities took precautionary measures by closing nearby schools within a 500-meter to one-kilometer radius of the incident.
The truck driver immediately informed the authorities, and police quickly arrived at the scene to control the traffic and prevent further complications. Firefighters and rescue teams also responded by spraying water on the tanker, which was carrying 18 tonnes of LPG en route to a Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) bottling plant in Ganapathy, Coimbatore, from Kochi, Kerala.
