Elite Unit of Agents formed by Israel to eliminate Hamas militants responsible for the October 7 attack
Israel forms an elite unit of agents eliminate Hamas militants implicated in the October 7 massacre. The Jerusalem Post reports that the specifically selected personnel will operate independently of other units.
The new force intends to primarily target members of the Nukhba commando wing of Hamas. This is the squad that is suspected of planning and carrying out the attack that killed hundreds of civilians near the country's border with Gaza. Times of Israel has reported that the new unit will use information and field operatives to eliminate around 2,500 terrorists involved in the attack. To date, the IDF has announced the deaths of Nukhba operatives such as Billal al-Qedra, the head of the terror group's Khan Younis brigade, and Commander Ali Qadhi.
The Shin-Bet is the Israeli equivalent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Shin Bet is named after the World War I-era Jewish underground organization "Nili," which is an abbreviation in Hebrew meaning "the Eternal One of Israel will not lie."
Reports suggest that the attack of the greatest magnitude was launched at an Israeli music concert. Terrorists stormed the gathering, killing at least 260 people and kidnapping many more. The event was held close to Kibbutz Re'im, not far from Gaza, and thousands of people attended. Palestinian gunmen stormed the site and killed those attempting to flee. The newly formed special unit hopes to eliminate each of the militants that were responsible for the October 7 attack.
The West Bank and Gaza have been on the receiving end of relentless airstrikes launched by Israel and are grappling with the vagaries of war since the unprovoked attack by Hamas on October 7. The Hamas attack claimed the lives of around 1,400 individuals, the majority of whom were unarmed civilians. In the retaliatory attacks, several hundreds have lost their lives, and that includes children.
