Defense Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Jammu on Wednesday to conduct a comprehensive security review following the recent terrorist ambush on Army vehicles in Poonch that claimed the lives of 4 soldiers. Upon reaching Jammu, Rajnath Singh left for Rajouri.

This visit by the Defense Minister occurs against the backdrop of an ongoing inquiry into a Brigadier-level officer for recurrent lapses in Army operations, leading to multiple fatalities among soldiers. Additionally, it coincides with widespread concern and unrest in Jammu and Kashmir over the deaths of three civilians in the Poonch sector, occurring after their detention by the Army for questioning.

During his visit, Rajnath Singh is expected to engage with residents and the families of the deceased civilians, aiming to address their concerns. A high-level security meeting is scheduled to take place at Raj Bhavan in Jammu around 3 pm, where various aspects of the security situation in the region will be discussed.

Given the importance of the Defense Minister's visit, security measures have been intensified across Jammu to ensure a smooth and secure assessment. This follows the recent visit of Army Chief General Manoj Pande to the Union Territory to review the prevailing situation.
