A bomb threat targeting the Mumbai–Ballia Kamayani Express (Train No. 11072) triggered a brief scare at Khandwa railway station on Saturday, prompting a swift and coordinated response from railway and security authorities. The alert, which turned out to be a hoax, temporarily halted the train and led to an extensive search operation to ensure passenger safety.
The incident began at approximately 12:48 PM when the Government Railway Police (GRP) control room in Bhopal received a call warning of a possible bomb on board the Kamayani Express. The threat specifically mentioned coaches S-4, S-5, B-4, and B-5. The train, which was traveling from Itarsi to Bhusaval at the time, arrived at Khandwa Junction at 12:59 PM and was immediately halted at Platform No. 5 for inspection.

Security forces, including personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), GRP, local police, and a bomb detection dog squad, were quickly deployed to the site. The platform area was cordoned off, and passengers were safely evacuated from the affected coaches to allow for a comprehensive search. The operation, led by the Inspector of Police Force (IPF) Khandwa, lasted about an hour as teams meticulously inspected each coach and the surrounding area for any suspicious items.

Following a thorough examination, no explosives or hazardous materials were found. Authorities officially declared the threat a hoax, and the Kamayani Express resumed its journey at approximately 1:55 PM — delayed by around 56 minutes. Passengers and staff expressed relief as the train continued on toward its destination.

The GRP has launched an investigation to identify the source of the false alarm. The phone number used to issue the threat is currently under surveillance, and officials are working to trace the caller. “We are treating this case with utmost seriousness and will ensure that those responsible for creating panic are held accountable,” said a GRP spokesperson.
This incident comes amid a rise in hoax bomb threats across the Indian Railways network, sparking concern over the misuse of emergency communication systems. Authorities have urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious behaviour, while reaffirming their commitment to ensuring the safety of all passengers.
