CPI(M) releases first list of 192 candidates for 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Sunday (March 16, 2026) released the first list of candidates for the upcoming 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election, announcing nominees for 193 constituencies across the state.

The list, released by the Left Front committee in Kolkata, marks the formal beginning of the alliance’s electoral preparations. While the CPI(M) has fielded candidates in the majority of constituencies, several seats have been allocated to other Left Front partners including the Communist Party of India, All India Forward Bloc, Revolutionary Socialist Party, Revolutionary Communist Party of India and Marxist Forward Bloc.

Among the prominent candidates announced in the first list are several well-known Left leaders and emerging faces.

The announcement of the first slate of candidates marks the beginning of the Left Front’s campaign preparations for the 2026 Assembly polls. Party leaders indicated that additional candidate lists are expected to be released in the coming weeks as seat-sharing discussions within the broader opposition alliance continue.
