Chandigarh Dibrugarh Express derails in Uttar Pradesh, 2 dead, over 60 injured; Another train tragedy in 32 days
At least two people have died and several injured as multiple coaches of the Chandigarh - Dibrugarh Express derailed on Thursday afternoon near Jhilahi railway station in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda. 40 medical teams have been stationed near the accident site for immediate medical attention. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were engaged in the rescue operation. Over 60 people have sustained injuries, rushed to various hospitals. This was the second major train accident in less than 32 days after the Kanchanjunga train accident in Bengal on June 17, which claimed 10 lives and injured many.
"Two people have died and about 20 people have been injured. They are being treated... The passengers will be taken to their destination by special rescue train..." said Neha Sharma, Gonda DM after visiting the accident site. The initial videos from the spot indicated the air-conditioned coaches of the 15904 Chandigarh - Dibrugarh Express were the worst affected, the train was en route to Dibrugarh in Assam. Out of the 12 coaches, four coaches of the AC compartment derailed a few kilometers before the Jhulahi railway station.
In a post on X, the CM's office said, “Taking cognizance of the train accident in Gonda district, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the district administration officials to reach the spot and expedite the relief work. The Chief Minister has instructed the officials to immediately take the injured to the hospital and provide them with proper treatment. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured, read a post sent out by the chief minister's office.”
