BSF Constable Martyred in Cross-Border Firing in Jammu; Tributes Pour In for the Fallen Soldier

The Border Security Force (BSF) lost another soldier, as Constable (GD) Deepak Chingakham succumbed to injuries sustained during cross-border firing by Pakistan Rangers in the RS Pura area of Jammu division. The 25-year-old passed away on 11 May 2025, following the incident that occurred on the intervening night of 9 and 10 May.
In an official statement, BSF Jammu said, “We salute the supreme sacrifice made by BSF #Braveheart Constable (GD) Deepak Chimngakham in the service of the nation; he sustained fatal injuries during cross-border firing along the International Boundary in R S Pura area, District Jammu on 10 May 2025, and attained martyrdom on 11 May 2025.”
Taking to social media platform “X”, BSF added, “DG BSF and All Ranks salute the supreme sacrifice made by Constable Deepak Chingakham in the line of duty… Prahari Pariwar stands firm with the bereaved family in these trying times.”
Former Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh, also paid tribute to the fallen soldier on X. “He was a proud son of Manipur, and as a Meitei, his courage and dedication to the nation reflect the deep sense of duty that lives within so many of our people,” he wrote.
BJP Manipur President, Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, expressed grief and pride at the loss. “His courage and devotion reflect the unwavering spirit and commitment of the Manipuri people,” she posted. “We honour his bravery and stand with his family and comrades in this time of grief. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
Congress state president Keisham Meghachandra also extended condolences. “The people of Manipur, and indeed the entire nation, are proud of his bravery and commitment. We will remember him for his supreme sacrifice for our motherland,” he said.
Constable Chingakham, hailing from Manipur, is the second BSF personnel to have died from injuries in the recent escalation along the International Boundary.His death follows the martyrdom of BSF Sub-Inspector Md Imtiaz, who was also injured in the same incident. Sub-Inspector Imtiaz succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, 10 May 2025. A total of eight personnel from the BSF’s 7th Battalion were injured in the cross-border shelling.
A wreath-laying ceremony with full military honours for Sub-Inspector Imtiaz was held on Sunday at the BSF’s Frontier Headquarters in Paloura, Jammu. His last rites are scheduled to take place on Monday in his native village, Narayanpur, in Bihar’s Saran district. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar condoled the death of Sub-Inspector Imtiaz.
