At least 27 people dead at a stampeded during a religious event at Uttar Pradesh
At least 27 people have lost their lives in a stampede at a religious gathering during Bhole Baba’s Satasang in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday. People who had reportedly fainted and were injured have been transported to hospitals for treatment. An investigation has promptly been launched, further details awaited.
"27 bodies have arrived at the post-mortem house so far, including 25 women and 2 men. Many injured have also been admitted. Further details will be revealed after the investigation. The primary reason is a stampede during a religious event,” said Umesh Kumar Tripathi, CMO Etah, Uttar Pradesh.
Taking to social media platform “X”, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that teams have been mobilised to conduct relief and rescue operations. “The loss of life in the unfortunate accident in Hathras district is extremely sad and heart-wrenching. My condolences are with the bereaved family. Instructions have been given to the concerned officials to conduct relief and rescue operations on war footing and to provide proper treatment to the injured. Hon'ble Minister in Uttar Pradesh Government, Shri Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary Ji, Shri Sandeep Singh Ji have left for the incident site and have directed the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of the state to reach the incident site,” posted CM Adityanath.
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also stated that a team has been formed under the leadership of ADG, Agra and Commissioner, Aligarh to investigate the causes of the accident. “I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed souls in his feet and provide speedy recovery to the injured,’ added Yogi Adityanath.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee conveyed her condolences to the bereaved families. "Just now learnt that in a sad incident of stampede, at least 27 devotees (including 23 women and 3 children) have succumbed to death at Hathras, UP. My heart goes out to their family members. Sincere condolences to the bereaved kins," posted Banerjee taking to social media platform "X".
