55-Year-Old Woman Raped in an Empty Train at Bandra Terminus, Accused Arrested
A 55-year-old woman was allegedly raped inside an empty compartment of a long-distance train at Bandra railway terminus during the wee hours of Sunday. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested the accused later that morning.
According to the police, the accused is a laborer, and an investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events leading to the crime. Meanwhile, an RPF personnel has been assigned to monitor the area where the incident occurred has been suspended.
The victim, a resident of North India, had arrived in Mumbai for sightseeing with her son-in-law. A local acquaintance showed them around the city but was unable to arrange overnight accommodation. As a result, the woman and her son-in-law decided to sleep at Bandra Terminus on platforms 6/7, which are relatively isolated.
Police stated that the accused lives on the footpath. While he identified himself as Rahul Shaikh, the investigation is underway to check the real identity of the accused. CCTV footage from the terminus was reviewed, and a few hours later, the accused was spotted re-entering Bandra Terminus. He was detained from the same empty train at around 5 a.m.
Police are investigating how the accused took the victim into the empty train, where the assault allegedly took place. A passerby noticed the incident and alerted her son-in-law, who was sleeping nearby. However, by the time he reached, the accused had already fled. The woman then approached the GRP and filed a complaint.
