20-year-old NEET aspirant from West Bengal commits suicide in Kota, marking the 28th case of student suicide in Kota in 2023
A 20-year-old student from West Bengal committed suicide in Kota on Monday. According to reports, the NEET aspirant was discovered hanging in his rented room in the Wakf Nagar area. Upon being rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead by the doctors. This incident marks the 28th such case of suicide in the city this year.
The 20-year-old student, identified as Faureed Hussain from Birbhum district in West Bengal, had resided in Kota for the past year while undergoing exam preparation at a coaching center. The police have said that no suicide note has been found in connection with the incident.
Hussain shared a rental accommodation with other students and was last seen by his peers around 4 pm. Subsequently, his room remained locked from the inside until approximately 7 pm. Concerned about his well-being; friends sought assistance from the landlord when their attempts to contact Hussain went unanswered. The police were alerted and discovered the student's body upon arrival.
Authorities are currently probing into this case of suicide, and the family of the deceased student has been informed. Following a postmortem examination, the student's body will be handed over to his family.
Kota has experienced a troubling increase in student suicide cases in recent months, prompting local authorities to take preventive measures. They have mandated the installation of anti-hanging devices in ceiling fans at all coaching centers and issued directives for institutes to refrain from conducting examinations for a period of two months, amongst other precautionary measures.
