15-year-old girl raped and murdered in Rajasthan, 2 arrested and 1 detained
Two men have been arrested and one detained in connection with the rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl, whose body was recovered from a well in Sikar, Rajasthan on Monday. The main accused, a 15-year-old boy, has been detained by the Rajasthan police for further questioning.
A missing complaint was filed by the victim's family after she had gone missing on Saturday night. Sikar Superintendent of Police, Ali Paris Deshmukh said that the police began investigating the case after receiving a missing person report and found her body in a well on Monday afternoon. "The body of the deceased minor was identified. Due to concerns of rape and murder, relevant sections of the law were added to the case, and further investigation was initiated." said a police official.
The Gehlot Government has come under fire from the opposition with a rise in the number of cases of rape and molestation in the poll-bound state. "These gruesome scenes of taking out dead bodies of our daughters from wells after they are raped have now become common in Congress's Jungle Raj," state Laxmikant Bhardwaj, BJP spokesperson. Moreover, BJP leaders of the state have staged sit-in demonstrations spearheaded by former Fatehpur MLA Nand Kishore Maharia, demanding justice and monetary compensation for the family of the deceased.
On September 24, the girl's maternal grandfather filed a case in Ramgarh Sethan police station accusing three people of kidnapping his minor granddaughter on the night of September 23. The victim's family has accused the three arrested of kidnapping, gang rape, verbal abuse, and murder. The last rites of the minor were carried out in Jasrasar village, Sardarseher on Monday.
According to the police reports, the main accused, a 15-year-old juvenile, has been apprehended, while his two accomplices, Sameer (19) and Ghulam (19), have been nabbed. "We have reviewed the CCTV footage installed along the route to the victim's house. The suspects are seen approaching and leaving the victim's residence. The identification of the suspects has been confirmed through the CCTV footage. One of the suspects also has an injury in his hand." said a police official.
