1 Dead, 8 injured as Bengaluru-Kamakhya Express Derails in Odisha

One dead and eight others injured after the Bengaluru-Kamakhya Express derailed in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Sunday. The derailment occurred near Nergundi railway station, severely disrupting the train's journey from Bengaluru to Kamakhya in Assam.
"One person has died in the incident. Eight people injured needed a referral and have been shifted. An enquiry is being done of the incident," District Magistrate Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde.
The derailment took place at approximately 11:54 AM when 11 coaches of the train went off the tracks near Manguli. The East Coast Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Ashok Kumar Mishra, confirmed the details, stating, "Eleven coaches of the SMVT Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Express derailed at Nirgundi near Manguli at 11.54 am."
In response, rescue and relief operations were launched immediately, with personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Odisha Fire Service assisting in the efforts.
As part of the restoration efforts, a relief train was arranged to transport stranded passengers to their destinations. Mishra added, “A relief train is being arranged to ferry the stranded passengers to their destinations.” Due to the derailment, three trains were diverted, including Dhauli Express, Neelachal Express, and Purulia Express.
The Railways have set up two helplines to assist those affected by the incident: 8455885999 (Bhubaneswar) and 8991124238 (Cuttack). Mishra assured, "We have arranged a control room and helplines for the affected passengers. We will share the profile of the passengers soon."
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma provided an update on the status of passengers from Assam, noting that two individuals from the state were injured but are now out of danger. “There are no casualties from Assam. Two persons from the state—Willson Digal of Udalguri and Amiran Nisha of Baksa—are injured and undergoing treatment. Both are out of danger,” he tweeted.
