Nayab Singh Saini Selected as Haryana BJP Legislature Party Leader, Set to Swear in as Chief Minister for Second Term
Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday was selected as the leader of the Haryana BJP Legislature Party and is set to take oath as the Chief Minister for a second term on October 17. His election took place during a meeting of the newly-elected BJP MLAs at the party office in Panchkula.
"The people of Haryana have placed their faith in the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and formed the BJP government for the third time and the people have resolved to carry forward the vision of Prime Minister Modi to make India developed by 2047," said Saini.
Saini first became Chief Minister in March, succeeding Manohar Lal Khattar, who stepped down prior to the Lok Sabha elections. Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, expressed confidence in Saini’s leadership, stating that the BJP will maintain its governance in Haryana, calling it a "double-engine government" committed to development.
Prime Minister Modi, Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, are expected to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Saini.
BJP clinched a third consecutive term in the Haryana assembly elections, securing 48 out of 90 seats, while the Congress Party increased its tally to 37 seats. However, Congress has contested the election results, alleging tampering with EVMs and calling for a verification of VVPAT slips against the EVM counts. The Election Commission has agreed to investigate 20 complaints, including seven formal allegations of EVM tampering, raised by the Congress party.
