YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as "BeerBiceps," has approached the Supreme Court seeking relief from multiple FIRs filed against him across various states. The cases stem from controversial comments he made during a now-deleted YouTube reality show, India’s Got Latent, which was hosted by comedian Samay Raina.
Allahbadia, through his lawyer Abhinav Chandrachud, the son of former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court to consolidate the FIRs lodged against him in different states. The petition also seeks anticipatory bail due to concerns of being arrested by the Guwahati police, who have already issued summons to him and others involved in the show.
In the petition, Allahbadia’s legal team requested an expedited hearing, which was mentioned before Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna. However, the CJI declined to grant an immediate hearing, as a date had already been set for the case. Justice Khanna advised Allahbadia’s legal team to approach the court registry for further details.
The controversy began when Allahbadia made inappropriate remarks during an episode of India’s Got Latent, a reality show featuring comedians and influencers as judges. Allahbadia asked a question that many found offensive: "Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?"
These comments sparked widespread outrage and led to multiple complaints across the country. In response, a resident from Guwahati filed a formal complaint, which prompted the Assam police to file a case against Allahbadia and other participants for obscenity and public immorality.
The police team from Assam is now in Mumbai to serve summons to Allahbadia, Raina, and other participants. Raina, who resides in Pune, has also been asked to appear before the Assam police within four days. However, Raina, who is currently in the United States for his shows, has requested additional time to comply with the summons.
The issue has gained significant attention, even reaching Parliament. Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske raised the matter, calling for stricter regulations on social media content. In response, a parliamentary panel on communications and information technology has asked the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to submit a detailed report on the issue by February 17.
Meanwhile, Samay Raina has taken down all episodes of India’s Got Latent from his YouTube channel, which had garnered millions of views. Through his social media accounts, Raina expressed that the recent events had become overwhelming for him, but assured his followers that he would cooperate with the investigative authorities.
