Anmol Bishnoi, Brother of Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, Detained in California; Efforts Underway for Extradition to India
Mumbai: In a significant development in the investigation into the murder of former MLA Baba Siddique, U.S. authorities have detained Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of infamous gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, in California. Anmol Bishnoi is reportedly linked to the recent shooting incident outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan's residence and the high-profile murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique.
Sources confirmed that Bishnoi was detained on Monday. This move comes after Indian authorities had issued a non-bailable warrant for his arrest two weeks ago, prompting efforts to expedite his extradition.
Although the Ministry of External Affairs has yet to officially confirm the detention, the Union Home Ministry and other investigative agencies are actively liaising with U.S. officials to ensure his swift return to India. In a statement, sources revealed that U.S. authorities had recently informed the Mumbai Police about tracking Anmol Bishnoi’s location within their jurisdiction. In response, the Mumbai Crime Branch initiated the process of securing his extradition by formally requesting U.S. authorities to facilitate his return.
Anmol Bishnoi's name emerged in connection with the recent firing outside Salman Khan's residence, which was allegedly orchestrated by a group with ties to organized crime. Investigations have revealed that Anmol Bishnoi was in contact with Shubham Lonkar and Zeeshan Akhtar, two key suspects believed to be the masterminds behind the attack. During their interrogation, it was revealed that Anmol had been providing instructions and coordinating with the assailants.
The brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, Anmol who has a long criminal history, is wanted for over 18 criminal cases, including several related to organized crime and terrorism. He is also under investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for two ongoing cases. In an attempt to apprehend him, the NIA had previously announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for information leading to his arrest.
He had been granted bail in October 2021 but reportedly fled India shortly thereafter using a forged passport. Since then, he has been spotted in various countries, including Kenya and Canada, before being located in the United States.
