A Kolkata-based content creator was arrested on Thursday for allegedly sexually assaulting his girlfriend and forcibly detaining her. The accused, who goes by screen name ‘Nonsane’, was nabbed by Kolkata Police from Dum Dum, while he attempting to abscond, sources said.
A case was registered on Wednesday by a 22-year-old woman alleging that the accused had tried ‘forcibly detain’ her in his house for nearly 20hours during which he also attempted to make sexual advances against her will.
Following the limelight on the incident, Bhartiya Janata Party has strongly defended the Bengal-based influencer, calling it a “targeted’ act by the ruling Trinamool Congress government in a ‘fabricated case’.
Taking to X, BJP IT Cell Chief Amit Malviya launched sharp critiques of the arrest further resorting to victim blaming. “No one knows why the so-called victim never spoke earlier. No facts are in the public domain. Yet, a complaint is filed, right on cue,” he wrote on X.
Just to note, the complainant alleged that she was subjected to the ordeal on February 2, 2026. Thereafter, a complaint was lodged on February 4, 2026.
Malviya also alleged that Adhikary’s fate is a result of “character assassination” by the TMC after the latter previously made reels about the lack of safety of women in West Bengal.
“A social media influencer whose video highlighted how women are unsafe in Bengal has suddenly been accused of assaulting a female friend. No one knows when this alleged incident occurred. One after another, activists and voices who embarrass the Trinamool Congress are being targeted, subjected to relentless character assassination, intimidation, and police action. West Bengal under Mamata Banerjee has turned into a dictatorial regime, where valid criticism is answered not with facts or reform, but with fake, malicious FIRs and fabricated cases,” Malviya added.
The social media influencer, identified as Samik Adhikary, is a resident of a reputed housing society in South West Kolkata’s Behala area. Following the complaint, he was said to be at-large. He was arrested after a rigorous search operation from northern part of Kolkata, Dum Dum.
“The FIR named accused person being the friend of the complainant, wrongfully confined her, physically assaulted her with fists and blows, outraged her modesty by pulling her wearing apparel and by touching her inappropriately and also threatened her over the issue of their dispute at the afore said date, time and place,” the police complaint said.
The complainant, according to police sources, was ‘Nonsane’s’ girlfriend at the time of the incident. In her written complaint, the victim also accused Adhikary of “inappropriately pulling her clothes and touching her while he kept her in isolation for over 12 hours.”
Based on her complaint, an FIR was lodged at Behala Police Station under Sections 127(2), 115(2), 74, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Following the first set of complaint, the young woman lodged another complaint of ‘attempted forceful penetration’ resulting in addition of Section 63 under BNS for attempted rape.
Adhikary was also one of the voices who took to streets seeking justice for the victim who was raped and murdered in R.G KAR Medical College & Hospital last year.
