“When I faced abuse day after day, your unconditional love protected me”, Congress leader and Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi wrote an emotion parting note to the people of Waynad, after he decided to let go Wayanad Lok Sabha seat and retain the seat of Raibareli constituency, erstwhile seat of his mother Sonia Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi had contested two seats - Wayanad and Raibareli and won both the seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. He won the Wayanad seat in Kerala for the second time in a row. But as per the rule, he needed to vacate one. His sister Priyanka Gandhi will be making her foray into electoral politics as congress as decided to filed her from Wayanad.

“You were my refuge, my home and my family. I never felt for even a moment that you doubted me…I will remember, the countless flowers and hugs you gave me. Each one given with such genuine love and tenderness. How can I ever forget, the bravery, beauty and confidence with which young girls would translate my speeches in front of thousands of people” Rahul Gandhi wrote on his note while calling it an honour to have represented the seat. He had previously called it a difficult choice at a public meeting in Wayanad after the election victory. Mr Gandhi has resigned from the seat on June 18.

“You must have seen the sadness in my eyes as I stood in front of the media and told you about my decision” Rahul Gandhi wrote pointing towards the announcement that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge made on June 17. Expressing gratitude to the people, Mr Gandhi had carefully left it to the people of Wayanad, more like an appeal for his sister Priyanka Gandhi.

“I am sad, but I am consoled because my sister Priyanka will be there to represent you. I am confident that she will do an excellent job of being your MP if you decide to give her the opportunity” he added.
