West Bengal Governor approaches ISRO for developing a technological solution for curbing the menace of ragging
After the roaring success of India’s lunar mission Chandrayaan-3, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, reached out to the Indian Space Research Institute (ISRO) for developing appropriate technology solution for curbing and eliminating the menace of ragging in college and university campuses across the state, said a statement issued by Raj Bhavan on Thursday night.
Following the untimely death of a 1st year student of Jadavpur University to alleged ragging and sexual harassment, Dr. CV Bose approached ISRO’s S.Somanath for an effective technological solution to mitigate the problem of ragging in educational institutions. "CV Ananda Bose, Hon'ble Governor of West Bengal and Chancellor of the universities contacted the Chairman of ISRO for identifying appropriate technology to effectively contain and eliminate the menace of ragging in the university campuses," read the statement.
The statement issued further elucidated that ISRO is trying to develop an appropriate technological solution using multiple sources such as video analytics, image matching automatic target recognition and remote sensing. This comes at a time when educational institutions across West Bengal are grappling with the problem of ragging.
