Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has conceded defeat in the 2025 State Assembly election. Kejriwal, who was contesting from the New Delhi constituency, lost to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Parvesh Verma.

"We accept the mandate of the people with great humility. I congratulate the BJP for this victory, and I hope they will fulfil all the promises for which people have voted for them,” said Arvind KejriwaL in a video message.

Despite the defeat, Kejriwal emphasised that AAP would continue to play a positive role in the political landscape of Delhi. "AAP will play the role of a constructive opposition and will continue to serve the people of Delhi," he said. He also highlighted the work his party has done over the past decade. "We have done a lot of work in the fields of health, education, and infrastructure in the last 10 years. We will not only play the role of a constructive opposition but will also remain among the people and continue to serve them."

As of the latest updates, the BJP has won 12 seats and is leading in 38 others, while the AAP has won 10 seats and is leading in 10 more. The Congress, however, has failed to open its account in the election.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to congratulate the BJP for its victory. In a post on X, he wrote, "Development and good governance have won." He further expressed his gratitude to the people of Delhi, saying, "My salute and congratulations to all my brothers and sisters of Delhi for giving a historic victory to BJP... I am very grateful to all of you from the bottom of my heart."

This victory marks a significant political shift, as the BJP has returned to power in Delhi for the first time in over two decades, decisively defeating the outgoing ruling party, the Aam Aadmi Party.
