Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday filed his nomination papers for the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat, seeking re-election as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate. Accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Amit Shah submitted the papers to the Gandhinagar collector and district election officer in the state capital, marking the event at precisely 12:39 p.m., considered auspicious timing known as 'Vijay Muhurat'.

“Today I have filed my nomination from the Gandhinagar seat. It is a matter of pride for me that this seat was represented by L.K. Advani, Atal ji, and the seat where Narendra Modi himself is a voter,” said the Union Home Minister after filing his nomination. Shah's victory in the 2019 general elections marked his debut as a Lok Sabha member, securing the Gandhinagar constituency with a margin of over five lakh votes.

Previously, Amit Shah has served as an MLA and MP from Gandhinagar for three decades. After filing his nomination, the Union Home Minister lauded the affection he has received from the people of the region, acknowledging his humble beginnings as a booth worker. Highlighting developmental initiatives, Shah noted that projects worth ₹22,000 crore had been accomplished in Gandhinagar over the past five years.

The forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat, scheduled for May 7, will see voting across all 26 parliamentary constituencies in the state. The 2024 General election is set to unfold in seven phases, beginning on April 19 and wrapping up on June 1. Each phase has its allotted dates, with Phase 1 kicking off on April 19, followed by successive phases on April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and finally, June 1. The process will reach its conclusion with the counting of votes and the announcement of results on June 4.
