“Ugly face of Congress…”: BJP MP Claims Rahul Gandhi Pushed MPs during Parliament Scuffle; Files Breach of Privilege Notice
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey on Friday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of "climbing up the Makar Dwar" at the Parliament scuffle on Thursday, where two BJP MPs were injured. Dubey claimed that he and another leader saw Gandhi near the Parliament gate and decided to give him space.
"After climbing up, he pushed Pratap Sarangi ji, Santosh Pandey ji, Mukesh Rajput ji, and all those who were standing there were pushed," Dubey said. He went on to criticize Rahul Gandhi, calling it the "ugly face" of the Congress party. "For the first time, I saw the ugly face of this party. The way our MPs were pushed, misbehaved with, and after that, they had no remorse, was condemnable," he added.
In addition to his claims about the scuffle, Dubey also moved a breach of privilege notice against Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of showing a "criminally edited" version of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's speech in the Rajya Sabha. The BJP MP alleged that the Raebareli MP had shared the "edited" video to stoke public anger and harm the dignity of both the Parliament and the nation.
In his notice, Dubey stated that Gandhi had taken an edited clip of Shah’s speech during the debate on the Constitution and shared it on social media. The video was used to accuse Shah of insulting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. "This was done with the sole purpose of misleading the public and defaming Amit Shah," Dubey said.
The Godda MP stated that the Union Home Minister had actually raised concerns about how Ambedkar was treated by India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. "But Gandhi cleverly cut out the context of Shah's words," Dubey alleged. "The sole motive was to defame Shah and attack the dignity of the Parliament."
He further accused Rahul Gandhi of committing "Breach of Parliamentary Privileges" and "Contempt of the House" and called for "exemplary punishment." Dubey argued that the punishment for such an offense should include Gandhi's immediate suspension from the House and its committees, followed by an investigation by the Committee of Privileges.
Amid the uproar over Shah’s remarks on Ambedkar, a violent scuffle broke out between MPs from the ruling BJP and opposition leaders from the INDIA bloc. Two BJP MPs, Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, were critically injured in the clash. Following the incident, the BJP filed a police complaint against Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of assault, incitement, and an attempt to murder.
In retaliation, the Congress party also lodged a police complaint, alleging "misbehavior" with Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge inside Parliament. Rahul Gandhi claimed that BJP MPs had pushed him to prevent his entry into the House. He also accused the ruling party’s leaders of manhandling Kharge during the incident.
