TMC Slams “Globe-Trotting” Modi Government Over Pahalgam Attack and ‘Diplomatic Failures’

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, via a video posted on X, criticising his frequent international travels amid what she described as a “colossal failure” in India’s diplomatic and foreign policy efforts following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Moitra, referring to Modi as the “globe-trotting” Prime Minister, questioned the effectiveness of his ‘taxpayer funded’ foreign tours in securing India’s position on the global stage.

In her video, Moitra highlighted the inability of Indian diplomacy to isolate Pakistan internationally after the Pahalgam attack. “Our honourable PM Modi has left yet again on another very long foreign tour. A few questions for the honourable PM. Mr PM, you are probably the one Prime Minister who has travelled the most on taxpayers’ money,” she said and pointed out the lack of global condemnation against Pakistan even after ‘Operation Sindoor’. “How is it that after all your diplomatic outreach and after all of India’s efforts, that today the leader of the free world is openly professing love for what is known as a terror hub, is having meals with its army chief. And worst of all, India and Pakistan have been hyphenated together, something that was unthinkable even 10 years ago”, she added.

Moitra also expressed concern over the perceived erosion of India’s diplomatic standing, noting, “Today, the prime minister of India and the prime minister of Pakistan are being spoken of in the same breath. How is it after all your efforts, Mr Prime Minister, and after the efforts of our External Affairs Ministry, after all diplomatic efforts, we have been unable to diplomatically isolate Pakistan?” She criticised the government’s failure to establish a direct link between Pakistan and the Pahalgam attacks, asking, “We have been unable to show to anybody any direct link between Pakistan and the Pahalgam attacks. Is that not a failure of intelligence on our part?”

She further highlighted the global financial support Pakistan continues to receive, stating, “Multilateral organisations like the World Bank and the IMF are bailing out Pakistan with billions of dollars.” She expressed dismay as “we have either been completely unable to convince them, or Pakistan’s just done a better job than we have.”

TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who himself was part of a parliamentary delegation for the Operation Sindoor outreach that visited several countries to garner international support, was first to raise five pointed questions directed at the Modi government. Banerjee had questioned the intelligence failure, and little information about the purported terrorists in public domain. “How did the terrorists enter India along with weapons and how did they disappear in thin air after committing the crime and where are they now”, are questions that the Diamond Harbour three time MP had asked. Echoing Banerjee, Moitra too has questioned the Union government for lack of transparency. This comes weeks ahead of the monsoon session of the Parliament, indicative of what possibly can dominate both the houses- Loksabha and the Rajya Sabha.
